How to separate waste
Where, when and how to dispose of different types of waste: what you need to know for careful separate waste collection
In Milan separate waste collection takes place “door-to-door”. Separate waste correctly and place it in the appropriate containers (bags and bins) so that it can be sent for recycling or recovery.

Days and times
Waste collection takes place on specific days of the week that vary according to the street and type of waste
There are two weekly collection days for the different waste types and they vary depending on the building address:
Tuesday and Friday
Wednesday and Saturday
Organic waste collection takes place on both days for each address. The collection of the transparent yellow bag for plastic and metal, the transparent neutral bag for the collection of unsorted waste, and the emptying of condominium bins for both paper and glass take place on one of the two days for each address.
When must waste be displayed for collection?
We always carry out the collections in the morning hours. The time for displaying waste varies depending on the area of the city:
Centre
Please dispose of your waste on the morning of the scheduled collection day between 5.00 and 5.40 a.m. (on Saturdays only from 6.00 to 6.50 a.m.). Bins must be returned to the property by 10 a.m.
Outer band
Please dispose of your waste on the morning of the scheduled collection day between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. Bins must be returned to the property by 1 p.m.
